Plain-language summary, not legal advice

Terms of use

This page says, in plain language, what you may and may not do with HuntPeople, and what we do and do not promise. It is accurate about how the product works today. It is not the binding contract. That version needs review by counsel before HuntPeople takes a paying user, and it will replace this page when it exists.

What you may use it for

Looking someone up for a reason you would be willing to state out loud. Reaching a lead you already have a relationship with, verifying a counterparty, due diligence, recovering a lost contact, journalism, or research. You are responsible for having a lawful reason, and for whatever law applies where you and the person are.

What you may not use it for

  • Stalking, harassing, threatening, or turning up at someone's home
  • Deciding whether to employ, house, insure, or lend to someone. HuntPeople is not a consumer reporting agency and its results are not a background check for those purposes
  • Discriminating against anyone on the basis of what a search returns
  • Bulk-harvesting records to resell, or reselling access to your key
  • Anything a lookup source's own terms forbid

We keep an audit log of every lookup, tied to the account that ran it. If an account is used for any of the above we can and will close it, and we can say who ran what.

What we promise about accuracy

Less than you might want, and we would rather say so. Confidence scores are computed from corroborating evidence by deterministic code, never guessed by the AI and never self-reported by it. A high score means several independent sources agree. It does not mean the answer is right. Sources go stale, people share names, and records get mixed up before we ever see them. Check anything you are going to act on.

A search that finds nothing is reported as finding nothing. A search where a lookup failed is reported as a failure, not as an absence. We do not dress one up as the other.

Money

Free lookups are free and always run first. Deep Search is the paid part, and it is metered in dollars against your plan's allowance. Going over bills as you go, up to a daily soft pause and then a harder monthly stop, after which Deep Search waits for the next cycle. The Free plan never runs Deep Search, so it can never generate a charge.

Searches run through an API key are separate. They draw on a prepaid credit balance, priced per inference. When the balance reaches zero those searches stop until you top up.

Cancel any time. You keep the plan until the end of the period you already paid for, then drop to Free. We do not refund a period that has already started.

Your data and ours

You own what you put in and what you export. HuntPeople keeps one shared record per real person, so the findings from your searches sit in a record other customers may also see. Your notes, edits, and deletions are scoped to your team. See the privacy page for what is stored and how removal works.
